WHY THIS WATCH
The IWC Top Gun is a series of pilot watches from the International Watch Company (IWC), a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer. Launched in 2007, the Top Gun line is part of IWC's Pilot's Watch family, influenced by the elite United States Navy Fighter Weapons School, also known as TOPGUN. These timepieces blend IWC's watchmaking expertise with the high-performance requirements of fighter pilots. The Top Gun series features robust materials like ceramic and titanium, making them highly resistant to external stressors. Iconic models include the "Miramar" and "Mojave Desert," showcasing IWC's commitment to innovation and design in the watchmaking industry.
The IWC IW389001 is a specific model within the IWC Top Gun collection, first introduced in 2016.
The IWC IW389001 stands out due to its unique combination of style, functionality, and inspiration. Its design pays homage to the prestigious United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), evoking a sense of adventure and elite performance. The use of high-quality materials, like a black ceramic case and titanium case back, offers durability and lightweight wearability. Its automatic, self-winding chronograph movement ensures precision and reliability. The black dial with luminescent hands and indices offers excellent legibility in low-light conditions. The IW389001's blend of aviation history, cutting-edge materials, and sophisticated design makes it a standout timepiece.
The IWC IW389001 features the in-house Calibre 89361, an automatic, self-winding movement with a 68-hour power reserve. This highly reliable and precise movement includes a chronograph function, date display, and flyback mechanism, allowing pilots and enthusiasts to measure time intervals with ease and efficiency while showcasing IWC's horological expertise.
On the wrist, the first thing you notice is how light this watch is for its 44.5mm diameter. I love how clean and legible this dial is. Compared to other Top Gun models I think this is the most desirable with the two sub-registered combined into one at the top. You can tell this is an in-house movement when you activate the chronograph or wind the watch. This watch is light, comfortable, and legible enough to be an everyday tool watch for me.
